Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 Game Review!

This game isn't bad, I can say that much, but when comparing it to the Star Wars films and the first Force Unleashed game, it just doesn't hold a candle. The Force Unleashed 2 is repetitive and cliched in some areas, but it is still very challenging and fun as well. I think the thing that keeps this game series going is the appeal and nostalgic value. Seeing classic Star Wars characters like Princess Leia, Yoda and Boba Fett make appearances really brings it into the continuity of the movies, and I have to disagree with the statement that both games alter the continuity of the films because they don't, they, in my very humble opinion, make them better. But The Force Unleashed 2 isn't a very good game either, and not very good to the point where you just get bored in the story and gameplay.

Galen Marek, aptly name Starkiller, returns as the game's protagonist, resurrected by the means of cloning. It is awesome that you are able to amp up the character's powers and attacks like in the first game, but over time, Starkiller's skills just aren't effective as they use to. It is also quite frustrating to fight off some of the bosses in this time. Don't get me wrong, the bosses in the first game were equally as hard, but the bosses in this game, especially the Gorog you fight on Cato Neimoidia, are just confusing and baffling. But if there is one thing I like about this game, is the cinematic cutscenes. Seeing the characters interact with one another and share dialogue really makes it seem like a movierather than a game.

It's also fun to see the cinematic like gameplay, something straight out of a classic science fiction or action movie. I loved some of Starkiller's abilities, particularly the free falling level and the ability to burst through the ceiling. But sadly, the good points end there. The Force Unleashed 2 is a baffling, perplexing, befuddling discombobulation in the Star Wars saga, and it's also very, very short, and I mean, very short. If you play this game without dying so often, chances are you will beat this game within two hours or so. But to be fair, it's not all that bad. Heck, it might even be better than Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. As a fan and critic of film making, science fiction, and video games, I can honestly say that this game series has potential, and no doubt if Lucasarts works very hard, they will be able to make the third installment the best yet. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 is very disappointing, but not a catastrophic disappointment, and still a fairly decent play. No doubt if you are a fan of these games and Star Wars in general, you will probably pick up this game and play it, because it surely isn't the worst game ever made, it just could have been adjusted in some areas.

What would have been better is if Starkiller had survived in the first Force Unleashed and was on the run from Darth Vader, eventually taking part in the events that would lead to Episode 4. But as the story is lacking in this game, it still satisfies any decent game player, and no doubt the younglings will like it!
